Some useful information for Class 4

Homework

Children will get weekly maths facts to learn and practise at home. This will aid their recall and fluency in maths lessons throughout the school.

Reading

Please support your child in encouraging them to read as often as possible in addition to discussing their chosen texts with them, considering setting, plot, characters and layout of non-fiction texts. As they become more independent in their reading, please encourage them to make entries in their reading journals themselves. Each pupils will read regulary with an adult in school.

Spellings

As part of our spelling scheme 'Read Write Inc', children are given spelling books which have lists of words they are working on for each unit. In school, children are expected to practise their spellings everyday from Monday to Thursday. Spellings are tested on a Friday. The children will have these spellings and our weekly orange words (tricky words) recorded in their home books for extra practice at home. The complete list of year 3 and 4 tricky words can be found in the middle of their reading journal.

PE

On Thursday afternoons, we have PE sessions. For the first half term, please send pupils to school in PE kit, suitable for outside activities, with their school uniform in a bag to change into after the lesson.

Honesty and empathy are our themes for SMSC this term.

Topic Work

Our topic this term isPrehistoric Britain, we will link our topic work with other areas of the curriculum.
