Welcome to Class 5                Class Teacher  Miss Turner

Class Information

PE will be on Mondays.  Please ensure children have the correct kit in school.  We will go outside as much as possible so please make sure your child is prepared come rain or shine!

Please support your child in encouraging them to read as often as possible, recording their own reading in their Reading Log book, this includes newspapers/comics.

Spellings & Number Facts

We are continuing with our spelling scheme: ‘Read Write Inc.’

To support their learning of spellings, the children have a spelling book in which they practise their spellings for the week.  This should be brought into school each Friday so they can stick in the new weekly spelling grid which then enables them to practise their spellings each night using a 'look, cover, write, check' method.  On a Friday a spelling test will take place in school in the back of these books.  Words from the year 5/6 spelling list (see below and inside their Reading Log Book) will be included in the spellings that your child is given to learn as we go through the year. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings each evening using the 'look, cover, write, check method.'

Maths Number Facts will be sent home on a Friday.  Please support your child with the learning of these so they become secure in the application of mental mathematical skills. These are essential building blocks which underpin the children's maths knowledge and understanding and they are interwoven with learning that takes place in school.

Our learning

We try to group aspects of our learning together to make it as meaningful as possible to the children.  Prior to half term we are becoming super scientists learning about  Forces and Earth and Space; then post half term we will shift our focus to finding out more about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and their impact on Britain.

Due to current circumstance the easiest way to get in touch if you have any questions is via email.

Many thanks,

Miss Turner
