Welcome to Class 6!            Miss Holmes

Welcome back to the Autumn term 2020!

This term our topic is the Wars of the World. We will be focusing on the Britain at war and trying to answer the question: 'What was it like to live through WWI and WWII?'

Use the curriculum overview below to find out what we are learning this term:

Here is some useful information for Class 6:

Reading

Please support your child with their reading by discussing their chosen texts with them, considering setting, plot, characters and word choices. Please encourage them to make entries in their reading journals themselves. Each pupil will read regularly with an adult in school.

Homework

Children will get weekly maths facts to learn and practise at home. This will aid their recall and fluency in maths lessons throughout the school.

Spellings

We are continuing with our spelling scheme: ‘Read Write Inc.’

To support the learning of spellings, the children will be given two spelling books to practise their spellings for the week: one to be kept in school for morning spelling practice each day, the other to be brought to school each Friday to stick in the new weekly spelling grid, then returned home to practise spellings at home each night. Each book will have a grid where children can practise their spellings using a 'look, cover, write, check' method. Spellings are tested on a Friday.

The complete list of year 5 and 6 tricky words can be found in the middle of their reading journal.

PE

On Wednesday afternoons, we have PE sessions. Please ensure that your child's PE kit is suitable for outside activities. It would be useful for trainers to be in school all week so that we can go outside for additional sport's activities.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to come and see me.

Many thanks in advance for all your support.
