Welcome to Mrs Eaton's Class 6E
I hope you have had a fantastic Christmas and a good rest.
This term our theme is 'Landscapes' focusing on: Earthquakes and Volcanoes.
In English, we will be taking part in the 'Clore Project' which will involve working with local poet, Jean Atkin, and Redhill primary school in Telford. We will be working towards a performance involving both schools at the Edge theatre this Spring.
In Science this half term we are going to be exploring Evolution and Plants.
In Design and technology we will be exploring Marbulous structures, designing and making a marble run!
Responsibility and Respect are our themes for SMSC this term. In the first few days back in each half term, we will be exploring the meaning of these themes through English, Art and Drama to contribute towards a whole class display.
For the first half term, our PE sessions will be as part of a Forest School session on Tuesday afternoons. Please remember to bring your Forest School gear every Tuesday! In the second half term we will be enjoying gym sessions every Friday afternoon with Mr Hulme. Please ensure your PE kit remains in school from Monday to Friday every week and you have the correct school PE kit of white T shirt, dark bottoms and a pair of trainers.
A word about SATS...
I know many of you will be anxious about the upcoming SATs and preparing for secondary school, but myself, Mrs Hawthorn and Mrs Reid are all on hand to support you every step of the way, to ensure that you are pushing yourself to reach your maximum potential and showing everyone just how brilliant you are!
A note for Parents/Carers...
Please support your child in encouraging your child to read as often as possible. Children will receive homework for SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and Maths every Wednesday, which is due in on Monday mornings. Please encourage your child to complete their homework on a Wednesday or a Thursday night so that if they have any problems completing it, they can ask myself, Mrs Hawthorn or Mrs Reid for help before it is due in on a Monday morning.
We have recently bought an exciting new spelling scheme for key stage 2 children called ‘Read Write Inc.’ From September 2016, children in KS2 will be taught spellings through this fun and interactive scheme by their class teacher every morning, Monday to Thursday. Children will no longer receive weekly spelling lists to learn for a weekly spelling test on a set day. This spelling scheme involves children working on a practice book linked to a different spelling focus each week. Spellings from the unit they find difficult will be recorded in their log book, and children will be encouraged to learn these and will be tested on them at different times throughout the term. Children should bring this log book home with them on a daily basis and remember to bring it back to school each day. We would be grateful if you could support your child by testing them on the words they have recorded in their log books and making sure this book comes home each night, and is returned to school each day.
Many thanks for all your support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come and see me.
