Welcome to Mrs Eaton's Class 6E

Welcome to your last term at Much Wenlock Primary School!

This term our theme is 'A Long Time ago' focusing on: Ancient Greece.  We will be exploring the question: "How did the ancient Greeks establish, build and maintain their empire?"

As soon as the SATs are out of the way, we will begin work on our end of year play: A Midsummer Night's Dream!

In Science this term we are going to be exploring 'Light,' then 'Keeping Healthy,' which will also include Sex Education.

In Design and Technology we will be making a Parthenon and exploring the different types of pillars used in Greek architecture.

SMSC

Tolerance and Resilience are our themes for SMSC this term.  In the first few days back in each half term, we will be exploring the meaning of these themes through English, Art and Drama to contribute towards a whole class display.

PE

For the first half term, our PE sessions will be Cricket, taught by Darryl from the English Cricket Board association on Monday afternoons.  Please ensure your PE kit remains in school from Monday to Friday every week and you have the correct school PE kit of white T shirt, dark bottoms and a pair of trainers.

A word about SATS...

I know many of you are anxious about the upcoming SATs and preparing for secondary school, but myself, Mrs Hawthorn and Mrs Reid are all on hand to support you every step of the way, to ensure that you are pushing yourself to reach your maximum potential and showing everyone just how brilliant you are! We are nearly there!  Keep going - you are awesome!!!!

A note for Parents/Carers...

Please support your child in encouraging your child to read as often as possible.  Children will receive homework for SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and Maths every Wednesday, which is due in on Monday mornings.  Please encourage your child to complete their homework on a Wednesday or a Thursday night so that if they have any problems completing it, they can ask myself, Mrs Hawthorn or Mrs Reid for help before it is due in on a Monday morning.

Spellings

From the Summer Term 2017, we are making some changes to our spelling scheme: ‘Read Write Inc.’ The children already have log books which have lists of the words they are working on for each unit.  In addition to the log books, children will now have spelling practice books for home and school use, similar to the ones we used for the previous spelling scheme.  The children will be given a grid in each of these books, where they can practise their spellings using a 'look, cover, write, check' method.  In school, each week, the children will be expected to do this every day from Monday to Thursday.  On Friday they will receive a test on a random selection of these words.  Please encourage your child to bring their home spelling book home every Monday and to practise their spellings each evening using the 'look, cover, write, check method.'

Many thanks for all your support.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come and see me.
