Mrs Jameson's Class

I am very glad to back in school and working with a

fantastic year 5 class.

Our topic this term is Super Shropshire and will include learning about the River Severn and the Shropshire HillArea of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The children will have a visit to Carding Mill Valley for river studies.

Responsibility and Respect are our themes for PSHE this term. included in this is the expectation that pupils will take more responsibility for their learning and belongings.

Across the year we will be trying to build children’s sense of resilience through activities from the Chris Quigley book: ‘Secrets to success’ and the use of the different skills that lead to resilience known as the ‘Successometer.

Please support your child in encouraging them to read as often as possible; the children now have reading records in which they are encouraged to write thoughts and comments in about their reading. completed books earn a star for their book marks. Children will receive homework for English and Maths every Friday -  this needs to be returned by Wednesday.

We are continuing with our spelling scheme: ‘Read Write Inc.’

To support their learning of spellings, the children will be given two spelling books for their spellings : the read write inc log book has a list of orange words that need learning and which become our "jumping words"; the other green book needs to be brought to school each Monday to stick in the new weekly spelling grid, then returned home to practise spellings each night using a 'look, cover, write, check' method.  On Friday they will receive a test on a random selection of these words.  Please encourage your child to bring their 'home spelling book' home every Monday and to practise their spellings each evening.

I am looking forward to doing lots of practical science lessons with the class as we explore materials and changes and forces.

PE lessons are on Thursdays and we are starting the term with netball which will be outside, therefore warm outdoor PE clothing is needed.

Please feel free to pop in and say hello or to get in touch if there is anything you need to discuss.
