Miss Farrington's Class

Welcome to Reception! An exciting new adventure for you, the next chapter of your lives.

Our topic this term is Where My Wellies Take Me... I wonder where your wellies will take you?

In our Literacy work this term we will be exploring the book 'Where My Wellies Take Me' by Michael Morpurgo. This book is a collection of poems, illustrated beautifully with postcards and photographs. We will be going on our own adventures and seeing where our wellies take us! We will be creating postcards,  creating a map of where we have been, labelling and drawing different things we have seen and developing our fine motor skills and pencil grip through exciting activities!

An important aspect of the EYFS curriculum is phonics. This is the time your child will learn to read! We will start with lots of listening activities before introducing phase 2. Your child will be given a phonics book to bring home, to practise the sounds we are currently learning. These will also be found in your child's reading book. Please note: Until we have started the phonics teaching and learning, children will have a book with NO words to share with you at home. Please encourage your child to look at the pictures and create the story with you.

Physical Development

This terms PE sessions will take place on a Monday afternoon. Our indoor PE session will focus on moving in different ways and exploring changing direction. We will also be improving our physical development by using the bikes and scooters daily.

As mathematicians this term, we will be exploring number in the local environment. I wonder why you might see numbers? Look out on your walks at home too! We will also be concentrating on gaining a good understanding of number and being able to estimate and count accurately sets of objects up to 10.

Welly Wednesday

Welly Wednesday is super important for this topic! We will be going down to the forest and exploring in our wellies, every Wednesday, come rain or shine! Please ensure your child has the appropriate clothing and footwear to ensure we can do this, whatever the weather! We may also use this time to go on a welly walk in the local area. If you would like to volunteer to help us out, please let me know. We would be very grateful of any extra help.

Homework will be sent out on a Wednesday and will need to be returned by the following Monday. Please support your child by helping them with their homework as this will help their progression in school. Homework will always relate to what the children have been focusing on in school. Please also ensure you find the reading book that is in your child’s book bag and share this with them daily. Spellings will also be found in your child’s book bag on a Monday. They will be tested on these the following Friday.
